Malcolm Greenwood knows what it takes to make a meeting, conference, or event truly work, because he's spent more than four decades making them happen at the highest level.
As the founder of Greenwood SMC (Strategic Meeting Consulting), Malcolm brings a rare combination of strategic thinking with hands-on event planning, meeting management, and production experience to every client engagement. Unlike consultants who arrive with pre-packaged solutions, Malcolm's approach begins with understanding, listening first, then building a strategy tailored to your specific needs and vision.
When the stakes are high and the details matter, experience is everything.
He doesn't just advise from the sidelines. He has planned, managed, and produced over 2,000 meetings and events, handling the logistics, negotiating the contracts, managing the budgets, and delivering the results, for organizations ranging from local non-profits to Fortune 500 companies, across more than 40 cities throughout the United States.
His professional career began in the world of national concert touring, where he served as Tour Director for some of the most recognized artists in the industry, managing touring crews of up to 60 people, overseeing multi-million dollar budgets, and routing performances from 3,000-seat auditoriums to 16,000-seat arenas. That experience instilled a producer's discipline that has defined everything he has done since: clear timelines, smart vendor strategy, honest budgets, and an unwavering focus on the audience experience.
Over the course of his career, Malcolm has planned and produced corporate meetings, conferences, galas, trade shows, and special events for a diverse roster of clients, including Verizon Wireless, Ameriprise Financial, Google, USGA, Country Music Association, Radio City Music Hall, Glanbia PLC, Compass Inc., CMT Awards, Dunn & Bradstreet, Vanderbilt University, American Cancer Society, Compassion International, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and many others. Events ranging from intimate executive gatherings to productions of 7,500 attendees.
Today, through Greenwood SMC, Malcolm serves as a trusted strategic advisor to corporations, associations, and organizations that want their conferences and meetings to perform, not just occur. Whether you're planning your organization's most important event in years or building a multi-year conference strategy from the ground up, he brings the experience, the relationships, and the producer-level discipline to get it right.
Endorsed by more than 100 industry peers across disciplines spanning event management, meeting planning, production, negotiation, and live events, Malcolm's reputation in the industry speaks for itself.
Prior to founding Greenwood SMC, Malcolm was co-owner of a full-service event planning company and served as General Manager, overseeing staff and operations for 28 years.
He is a graduate of Belhaven University and has been based in Nashville, Tennessee for most of his conference, meeting, and event planning career.
A Note on How Malcolm Works Today
After more than four decades at the center of the meetings and events industry, Malcolm has reached a point in his career where he is selective about the engagements he takes on. He is not building a practice, he is sharing one.
Greenwood SMC exists for organizations that want access to the kind of experience that simply cannot be taught, the instincts, the relationships, the hard-won judgment that only comes from four decades of doing this at the highest level. Malcolm brings all of that to a carefully chosen group of clients each year.
If your organization is navigating something important, a milestone conference, a strategic event, a critical hire, and you want someone in your corner who has seen it all and has the wisdom to improve your event, that is exactly what Greenwood SMC is here for.
